Recently, I had the honor to represent Dem, a boutique located in china town New York, in their first ever New York fashion week show. Dem was started by Michilene Augusta, also a model, and showcases incredible vintage pieces, along with hand crafted garments from Trinidadian designers. Along with this, the boutique has cute jewelry, art, and decor.
Upon entering the store, it’s an automatically fun, happy, and laidback environment. With music playing lightly in the background with steel drums, you can’t help but fall in love with all this little haven has to offer!
While fitting for the show, a little tea set caught my eye with its floral pattern, and dainty design. Seeing that made me reminiscent of having tea parties, and a simpler time with friends at a younger age! That feeling of nostalgia, and warmth, is the power this store has!
The show was set to happen on the streets of China Town. With live steel drums, drumming away, an enthusiastic and excited crowd, photographers clicking away, it was a positively lovely show from start to finish. My look was this hand beaded little black dress. Not being the average “LBD”, I felt elegant, cool, and simply in love with the detail that went into this pieces design.
after the show, the crowd mingled, the drummers drummed, and refreshing sips were served! This show was such a fun one to be a part of, and showcasing designs of the past, with incredible craftsmanship that is current, it was a recipe for something beautiful.
Congratulations Dem! Excited for your future...
