Flawless Makeup: Casting Edition

As a model, I am “under the microscope” relative to how I present physically, the condition of my skin, and the way in which I carry myself or act, and most importantly, I am judged by the condition of my skin. To be considered for opportunities, it is my responsibility to be ready to cast at a moment's notice. Things happen fast in this business, and success is often determined by a model’s readiness for a job. A part of that for me is having an everyday “go-to” skin care regimen followed by a specific casting make up routine.

It is important when you go out on a casting that you don’t wear too much makeup. The goal with casting makeup is to wear makeup so that the client can see YOU, NOT your eyeliner, red lips, or extremely contoured face. You just want to lightly highlight or excentuate your good features and draw attention to your inner-natural beauty! This week I will be sharing with you an easy, clean, and fresh looking casting makeup “no-make up” look.

Step 1: Skin Care

As always, be sure to thoroughly do your skin care regime. I take this very seriously, and this is where it all begins! If you don’t have a good skin care regime or are not doing one, it can effect the way in which makeup lays on your skin, or make it look “un-healthy” or dull. So find what works for you, and it does NOT need to be expensive skincare products! My all time favorite face wash that I use morning, and night, is Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser. It is easily found in most grocery stores, can be bought online, and is reasonably priced at $6.69.

Step 2: Prep/Prime Skin

I’m always sure to prime my skin! A good primer allows for a nice finish of your makeup and ensures a good end result. I use NARS primers, and it has SPF 25 sun protection as well so, it’s really like have 2 products in 1!

Step 3: Conceal

Next, I apply a very light layer of RMS Beauty’s “un-cover up” to even out skin tone, cover any dark circles, or blemishes.

Step 4: Highlight your features

I like to apply a little bit of highlighter in the inner corners of my eyes to brighten, and on my cheek bones. This adds a subtle glow, and beam to your face that will make you sparkle! For this I also use RMS Beauty’s highlighter.

Step 5: Gloss

Apply a light layer of sheer or light pink gloss. I don’t wear lipstick to castings as I feel it is just too much for most clients. I opt for a light gloss or tint to give a touch of color, and moisten my lips

Step 6: Eyes

The eyes are the windows to the soul, so why not make sure they are top notch?! I curl my eyelashes slowly moving out and upward with the curler, then applying a thin layer of mascara to hold it in place. I then proceed to swipe a few whisks of Glossier’s boy brow to my brows to hold them in place too.

Step 7: Blush and Go!

A few swipes of Tarte’s blush, and a spritz of rose water, and you are casting ready, baby!

With these 7 easy steps, you will have a flawless, fresh, casting ready look and will be ready to book your job! Get out there girl, and do your thing!
